Thanks, Giving: A Blog Post.

My father, an attorney, claimed that “online communications” were the most important technology he used. He also spoke to assisted research and word processing, which he used during in his time in law-school in the mid ‘80s, however he claimed that it was this online technology that was as essential as it was. It allowed him to find information and contact other people in a faster, more effective, way that also allowed him to have more free time for “creative effort”. He claimed that there were some difficulties in this technology, as it was so new, however he was able to teach himself.

This seems to be the goal of more or less all of the pieces we’ve read. More information faster. We want to synthesize millions of books into one tablet. We want to mash up all culture into one remixed video. We want education to be as specified as possible. I have found that as we’ve read, the idea of refinement has been the foremost idea of these technologies and ideologies. His specifics about research and contacting people has become even more meaningful during my time at UW, as all of the papers I’ve written have relied super heavily on UW’s online library. As well as that, contacting people (be it teachers, or film distributors) has completely relies on my ability to quickly and eloquently to them.
